There’s something thrilling about editing music in the midst of a thunderstorm. The energy is high, and the chance of electrocution is relatively low… but then again…
Detraction
‘Progression’ Video Review

Experimental electronic artist Detraction has a new video out from his recent album “As Above/So Below.” It begins with a slow-motion shot of a snow shower on a busy Milwaukee street, eventually switching to a rain shot filmed in reverse. In the second half, close-ups of the puddles flowing down the curbs reflect a fascination by perpetual motion of matter. Then we are taken into Fresh Thyme Market, where people are lined up with their groceries, ending with a shot of a big unicorn balloon. It seems to be a commentary about the movement of society against the elements while other objects remain perfectly still. Detraction is working on another album due out later this year.

Once again, big thank you to Ben Slowey and your pure words. Thank you once again.
New Video: Progression
Video of Progression from the album as above/so below was over a year in process, yet 12 more hours would have made it better.
What’s going on?
I’ve been really busy since late August. Still trying to finish a music video, working on a new album, two retrospectives and collaborating with a like-minded musician. I’m pretty excited, but must remain devoted to my many “lists” and stay on target. Nonetheless, I’m not going to be board for a very long time.
‘as above/so below’ Album Review
Breaking And Entering reviewed as above/so below with a serenade of kind words:
“Detraction is the experimental electronic project of Larry Dubec. His latest album he believes is his “most beautiful and coherent compilation he’s ever produced.” Created over the course of twelve months, the record is a venture through space and time using ambient synth passages and vivid, dreamy wonder. There’s a sample of a Black Lives Matter chant in the track “Family” as well as field recordings in “Concrete Kensho.” It feels like a time lapse of everything that’s happened this year. We commend Detraction on a terrific soundtrack of dystopian bliss, and look forward to what he does next.”

A big thank you to Ben Slowey for the warm ego-boost, for your words are pure gold to me. Thank you once again.
New Album- ‘as above/so below’
I’m a day late in posting this, but ‘as above/so below’ done!!
This is the most beautiful, and coherent compilation I’ve ever produced.
Heavily atmospheric and borderline spiritual, this material is a 12 month process of congruent experiments. ‘as above/so below’ is a study of signal delay/decay and longevity within time and signature.
To my confidantes:
Matt Dardis
Mary Dally-Muenzmaier
Kevin Dally-Muenzmaier
Kylen Olsen Pardo
Alex Bischmann
and many others:
Thank you for proof-hearing and giving feedback in times of need 🔥🙏❤️
The album is on sale now on Bandcamp for $10 (or more).
Thanks again for all your support.
New album, cover art and music video are almost completed.
Coming late August 🔥

Detraction/Isolated tracks/Teaser 3/New album
New album/taking forever/here’s something
Thus-far, it’s been eight months of congruent experiments, highs and lows of musical entanglement, consulting with confidants and headstrong movements.
Overwhelmed?
Not really. Just stuck in a “perfectionary caution” phase for the best… for every sound/instance has a place and contains weight. Being the conductor of such experimentation, one must learn to walk away from such construction, and be vigilant on the final process.
So much more to do… and looking forward to it.
Hear you in August.

“When you sit back and realize what year it really is,
and how many birthdays you’ve had,
and the Earth is just a rock in delicate balance,
within the void of outer-space.
You might just become aware that Life is an exercise
in knowing, loving and dishing-out compassion
to all fellow Earthlings, and those not of this Earth.
Then Life becomes a journey to absolute Warmth and Giving.”

If the Abyss ever looks back at you, please realize.
My emotions now seem to flow asymmetric opposed to congruent.
It’s like I’m constantly editing live music on the fly, yet the notes are thoughts and feelings.
I’d give anything to record it, and play it back sometime.
